Re: Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2008-11 - Request for extension to file comments regarding the implementation of wireless number portability in the operating territories of the small independent local exchange carriers

By letter dated 11 July 2008, the Canadian Independent Telephone Company Joint Task Force, on behalf of 33 small independent local exchange carriers (SILECs), requested an additional 45 days to file its comments in the above-noted file.

Commission staff notes that the SILECs already have had an opportunity to gather evidence and make submissions on several of the issues included in the above-noted public notice when they participated in the proceeding that led to the framework for implementation of local competition in the territories of the SILECs [1] .

In light of the above, and the fact that the Commission considers the implementation of WNP in the SILEC operating territories a priority, Commission staff does not consider the length of the requested extension to be appropriate.

Commission staff considers however, that some extension would be reasonable in this case as, for example, it would be important to give all parties an opportunity to present as complete a record of their submissions and evidence as possible in order for the Commission to render an appropriate determination concerning the issues identified in this public notice.

Consequently, all parties have until 11 August 2008 to file comments, serving copies on all other parties, to the issues identified in Telecom Public Notice 2008-11.

All parties will then have until 2 September 2008 to file reply comments, serving copies on all other parties.

Sincerely,
