CHMY-FM Renfrew and its transmitter CHMY-FM-1 Arnprior - Technical change

1. The Commission approves the application by My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), the licensee of the radio programming undertaking CHMY-FM Renfrew, to change the authorized contours of its transmitter CHMY-FM-1 Arnprior by decreasing the effective radiated power (ERP) from 1,000 watts to an average ERP of 790 watts, by increasing the effective antenna height and by relocating the transmitter.
2. The Corporation of the Town of Arnprior has indicated that future use of the current site for the station's antenna system is uncertain, and suggested that a new site be found. For its part, MBC stated that it has found a suitable existing tower structure, of a height that would provide proper coverage to the community, on Mount Packenham, which is located about ten kilometres south of Arnprior.
3. MBC also indicated that it wishes to increase service to the community of Arnprior with more local news, weather and sports, and ensure that Arnprior and area residents continue to enjoy a clear FM signal that provides local information unavailable elsewhere.
4. The Commission notes that the proposed technical changes will result in a significant increase in the authorized contours of the station.
5. The Commission received an intervention in support of this application.
6. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
