Renaming of WTBS Atlanta as WPCH-TV Atlanta on the lists of eligible satellite services

Turner Network Sales Inc. has informed the Commission that the call sign of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.'s Atlanta television station WTBS has been changed to WPCH-TV Atlanta. The Commission is amending its Revised list of non-Canadian programming services authorized for distribution to reflect the change of name. The revised lists are available on the Commission's Web site at www.crtc.gc.ca  under "Industries at a Glance."

Name change

1.

On 21 September 2007, the Commission received a letter from Turner Network Sales Inc. (Turner) indicating that the call sign of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.'s (Turner Broadcasting) television station WTBS Atlanta would be changed to WPCH-TV Atlanta (Peachtree TV), subject to the approval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

2.

Turner stated that the change would be a "mere renaming of the existing television station that will not have any impact on the nature of the service, or the technical characteristics of the WTBS signal" and suggested that the Commission may wish to note the change when it next revises its lists of eligible satellite services (the Lists). Turner noted that it would "advise the Commission as soon as this change has officially occurred."

3.

On 10 October 2007, Turner informed the Commission that the FCC had confirmed its approval for the change of call sign effective 1 October 2007. Turner also "confirmed once again that there will not be any impact on the nature of the service."

4.

Based on Turner's submissions, the Commission amends the Lists to reflect the change of name from WTBS Atlanta to WPCH-TV Atlanta. The Lists are available on the Commission's Web site at www.crtc.gc.ca  under "Industries at a Glance" and may be obtained in hard copy on request.

Status of the national TBS cable network feed

5.

The Commission added Turner Broadcasting's television station WTBS Atlanta to its Lists in Public Notice 1987-261. The service added was the over-the-air television station serving Atlanta, Georgia, and not the national TBS cable network feed, which has never been authorized for distribution in Canada.
