Re: HD Simultaneous substitution by Shaw Cablesystems and Star Choice
This is further to your letter of 7 December 2007, in which Shaw Communications Inc. (Shaw) notified the Commission that Shaw Cablesystems and Star Choice intend to implement high-definition (HD) simultaneous substitution under the terms and conditions set out by the Commission by 31 December 2007.
The Commission notes that, on 11 December 2007, Shaw filed information related to the technical and operational steps that it has undertaken to manage HD substitutions.
In light of Shaw's expressed intention to comply with the regulatory framework for HD simultaneous substitution, the Commission will not proceed with the hearing announced in Broadcasting Notice of Public Hearing CRTC 2007-16.
Shaw is directed to confirm, by 4 January 2008, that it has, in fact, implemented HD substitution with respect to all HD stations entitled to it and in particular, the CTV HD signal in Vancouver, as distributed by the Class 1 cable systems operated by Shaw Cablesystems in the Vancouver area, and the CTV and CITY-TV HD signals in Toronto and the CTV HD signal in Vancouver, as distributed by Star Choice.
