Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2007-118

  Ottawa, 24 April 2007
  Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Vancouver and Princeton, British Columbia
  Application 2007-0144-2
Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2007-16
16 February 2007

CBUT Vancouver - Addition of the transmitter CBRG-TV Princeton

1.

The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the broadcasting licence for the television programming undertaking CBUT Vancouver, in order to add the transmitter CBRG-TV Princeton, which operates on channel 6 with a transmitter power of 10 watts.

2.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

3.

The Commission notes that the transmitter to be added to the CBUT licence, CBRG-TV Princeton, is currently operated by the CBC as a radiocommunication distribution undertaking (RDU) that rebroadcasts the programming of the CBC affiliate CHBC-TV Kelowna, British Columbia. In CHBC-TV Kelowna - Licence amendment, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2005-80, 28 February 2005, the Commission approved an application by Global Communications Limited (now CanWest MediaWorks Inc.) to disaffiliate its station CHBC-TV from the CBC English-language television network. Approval of this application will ensure that residents of the Princeton area will continue to receive CBC programming from CBUT Vancouver.

4.

The CBC has requested that should this application be approved, the licence for the above-noted RDU be revoked. Accordingly, the Commission, pursuant to sections 9(1)(e) and 24(2) of the Broadcasting Act, revokes the broadcasting licence issued to the CBC with respect to the RDU CBRG-TV Princeton.
