Application No. 2006-1505-7
Application by Tiessen Media Inc. for the use of frequency 95.3 MHz (channel 237A1) with an effective radiated power of 100 watts (non-directional antenna/antenna height of
- 42 metres) for the operation of the FM transmitter at Cochrane, Alberta approved in Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2006-325, 2 August 2006, (Decision 2006-325).
In Decision 2006-325, Eclectic Adult Contemporary FM station in Airdrie and Cochrane, the Commission approved in part an application by Tiessen Media Inc. to operate a new English-language, commercial FM radio station in Airdrie, (CFIT-FM) with a transmitter at Cochrane. However, the Commission did not approve the proposed frequency 99.1 MHz (channel 256LP) for the transmitter at Cochrane.
The present application is filed in response to Decision 2006-325, in which the Commission stated that it would only issue a licence to Tiessen Media Inc. if it submitted an application proposing the use of another FM frequency and technical parameters for the transmitter at Cochrane that are acceptable to both the Commission and the Department of Industry.
The Commission notes that this application is for consideration of a regular Class A1 service. The initial application considered by the Commission for the transmitter at Cochrane was for a low power unprotected service.
The applicant advised that this is the result of the original proposed tower owned by Telus Mobility being no longer available and having to obtain an alternate transmitter site. The proposed transmitter will be located on the Bell Mobility tower. The applicant explained that in order to duplicate the original coverage, it is now proposing to operate with limited Class A1 parameters.
