Tourist information radio station at Chilliwack - Licence amendment

1. The Commission approves the application by Cameron Bell Consultancy Ltd. (Cameron Bell), to temporarily amend the broadcasting licence of the tourist information radio programming undertaking at Chilliwack, British Columbia, by amending conditions of licence 1 and 2, in order to allow the live broadcast of the 72 hockey games of the Chilliwack Bruins during the 2006-2007 hockey season, and to allow the broadcast of additional commercial messages during those games.
2. Condition of licence number 1 currently reads as follows:
 

The licensee must use the station solely to provide a Tourists/Travellers Advisory Service which integrates current weather forecasts, weather bulletins, highway surface conditions and other travel-safety information, as well as tourist information for the Chilliwack area. This would include announcements that describe recreational, heritage, cultural and commercial opportunities of interest and current visitor attraction information updated as frequently as required to ensure tourists/travellers have access to the most current travel announcements.

3. Cameron Bell proposed to amend condition of licence number 1 by adding the following:
 

.and live play-by-play hockey broadcasts during the 2006-2007 season.

4. Condition of licence number 2 currently reads as follows:
 

During each clock hour, the licensee may broadcast not more than six minutes of commercial messages.

5. Cameron Bell proposed to amend condition of licence number 2 by adding the following:
 

.except during hockey broadcasts where the licensee may broadcast not more than twelve minutes of commercial messages during each clock hour.

6. The Commission received one intervention in support of this application.
7. Condition of licence number 1 is hereby replaced with the following condition:
 

The licensee must use the station solely to provide a Tourists/Travellers Advisory Service which integrates current weather forecasts, weather bulletins, highway surface conditions and other travel-safety information, as well as tourist information for the Chilliwack area, and live play-by-play hockey broadcasts of the 72 games of the Chilliwack Bruins, during the 2006-2007 hockey season. This would include announcements that describe recreational, heritage, cultural and commercial opportunities of interest and current visitor attraction information updated as frequently as required to ensure tourists/travellers have access to the most current travel announcements.

8. Condition of licence number 2 is also hereby replaced with the following condition:
 

During each clock hour, the licensee may broadcast not more than six minutes of commercial messages, except during live hockey broadcasts of the 72 games of the Chilliwack Bruins during the 2006-2007 hockey season, where the licensee may broadcast not more than twelve minutes of commercial messages during each clock hour.
