CKYX-FM Fort McMurray - Technical change
1.
The Commission approves the application by O.K. Radio Group Ltd. (O.K. Radio)1 to change the authorized contours of the radio programming undertaking CKYX-FM Fort McMurray, by increasing the effective radiated power from 2,790 watts to 40,000 watts and by increasing the antenna height.
2.
O.K. Radio stated that the proposed change in the authorized contours would be the result of an upgrade to the transmitting facilities. The licensee also noted that the proposed technical changes would generally improve the broadcast signal in downtown Fort McMurray and would allow commuters both north and south of the city to pick up their local radio station over a greater distance.
3.
The Commission notes that the proposed technical changes will result in a significant increase in the authorized contours of the station.
4.
The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
5.
The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
6.
The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
