Telecom Order CRTC 2005-35

  Ottawa, 21 January 2005

NorthernTel, Limited Partnership

  Reference: Tariff Notice 214

Centrex II service promotional campaigns

1.

The Commission received an application by NorthernTel, Limited Partnership (NorthernTel), dated 16 December 2004, to revise item 11.01, Promotional Campaign, under section N240 of its General Tariff, in order to introduce two Centrex II service promotional campaigns: the first, from 4 April 2005 to 17 June 2005, and the second, from 12 September 2005 to 25 November 2005.

2.

During the campaigns, the multi-element service charges associated with the three- and five-year contracts will be waived for all individual business lines, multi-lines and existing Centrex service subscribers converting to a three- or five-year contract. This waiver will not apply to moves, adds or change order requests.

3.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

4.

The Commission notes that in Regulatory Framework for the Independent Telephone Companies in Quebec and Ontario (Except Ontario Northland Transportation Commission, Québec-Téléphone and Télébec ltée), Telecom Decision CRTC 96-6, 7 August 1996, it determined that, while it would continue to require tariffs for promotions and market trials, it would not require economic studies and it would endeavour to provide flexibility and deal with such applications on an expedited basis. The Commission also notes that NorthernTel is not subject to the restrictions regarding promotions set out in Review of promotions, Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2003-1-1, 13 March 2003.

5.

The Commission approves NorthernTel's application. The revisions take effect as of the date of this Order.

6.

NorthernTel is to issue a revised tariff page forthwith to reflect this change.
