Ottawa, 4 November 2005

By Electronic mail

To:   Interested Parties to Public Notice 2005-7

Dear Sir/Madam:

Re: Access to information contained in the incumbent local exchange carriers' Emergency 9-1-1 databases for the purpose of providing a Community Notification Service, Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2005-7, 22 June 2005 (Public Notice 2005-7)

On 9 September 2005 , Commission staff issued interrogatories to the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) in the above referenced proceeding.   Commission staff notes that, pursuant to the procedure set out in Public Notice 2005-7, and amended by way of letter on 30 September 2005 , responses to the Commission's interrogatories were required on 7 October 2005 .

Commission staff notes that PIAC submitted its responses to the interrogatories on 13 October 2005 .   In its letter of 13 October 2005 , PIAC requested that the Commission consider its responses to the Commission's interrogatories, in light of the seriousness of the issues raised in Public Notice 2005-7.   PIAC also proposed that the Commission allow the parties to the proceeding additional time to consider its responses to the Commission's interrogatories, prior to filing their final arguments and reply arguments.

Commission staff considers that PIAC's responses to the interrogatories will contribute to a better understanding of the issues before the Commission in the above-noted proceeding.   Therefore, PIAC's responses will be included in the public record of this proceeding.

Commission staff advises parties to this proceeding that it will shortly issue a letter setting-out the revised process for the proceeding.

Yours sincerely,

Gerry Lylyk
Director, Consumer Affairs, Telecommunications
