Re: Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2005-14 - Implementation of Wireless Number Portability

We are in receipt of your letter of 30 September 2005 advising the Commission that the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) is not in a position to provide a detailed response to the staff interrogatory sent to the CWTA on 23 September 2005 . In that letter, the CWTA raised a number of issues associated with the information requested by staff and noted that it would take four to six weeks for the CWTA to provide a   full response.

As noted in your letter, it is important for the Commission to quickly deal with the issues identified in Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2005-14 - Implementation of wireless number portability , 16 September 2005 (PN 2005-14) so that the wireless industry can quickly move forward on wireless number portability implementation. Staff agrees with this   assessment and accordingly will not modify the existing schedule.

In order for the Commission to issue a decision within the time period contemplated by the wireless industry so that the wireless industry can quickly proceed with wireless number portability implementation, it is necessary for the issues in PN 2005-14 to be resolved with the record that will be developed within the established time frame.

The CWTA is to file, within the comment period for this proceeding, all information it or PricewaterhouseCoopers has regarding the proposed WNP implementation schedule, including implementation schedules for individual wireless carriers, so as to be more responsive to the staff interrogatory.

Sincerely,
