CBUT-35 Sechelt - Technical Change

1.

The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the broadcasting licence for its television programming undertaking CBUT Vancouver, in order to change the channel of its transmitter CBUT-35 Sechelt from 19LP to 18LP.

2.

The CBC stated that the use of channel 18LP will provide a better quality signal to listeners in the Sechelt area who are currently experiencing poor reception of CBUT Vancouver.

3.

The Commission received an intervention in support of this application and a comment, which commended the CBC's service to Canadians.

4.

The Commission reminds the applicant that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry (the Department) notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
5. Given that the technical parameters approved in this decision are for a low-power unprotected television service, the Commission also reminds the applicant that it will have to select another channel if the Department so requires.
