Use of frequency 105.1 MHz by the new English-language FM radio station in Halifax

1. The Commission approves the application by Global Communications Limited (Global) to operate its new English-language FM radio station in Halifax at 105.1 MHz (channel 286C) with an average effective radiated power of 32,000 watts.
2. The applicant filed this application in response to the Commission's direction in Easy Listening FM radio station in Halifax, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2004-515, 26 November 2004 (Decision 2004-515). The applicant had originally proposed to operate its new station at 103.5 MHz (channel 278C) with an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts. In Decision2004-515, the Commission stated that it would only issue a licence for this station provided that the applicant submitted an application proposing the use of another FM frequency that would be acceptable to both the Commission and to the Department of Industry (the Department).
3. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with the present application.
4. The Department has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
5. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the licence for this undertaking will only be issued once the Department has notified the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
