The Commission has received the following application. The deadline for submission of interventions/comments is 14 December 2004.
1. |
Across Canada Application No. 2004-0465-8 |
Application by Global Televison Network Inc. to amend the licence of the national Category 2 specialty programming undertaking known as COOL-TV (formerly The Jazz Channel).
The licensee proposes to replace the part of the condition of licence set out in Decision CRTC 2000-563 relating to its nature of service which reads:
c) A minimum of 25% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast week shall be devoted to the exhibition of programming featuring music video clips (category 8b).
by the following condition:
c) A minimum requirement of 25% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast week shall be devoted to the exhibition of programming from categories 8a (Music and dance), 8b (Music video clips) and 8c (Music video programs).
The licensee states that very few jazz performers have recorded music videos and that the short form jazz video is an underdeveloped part of the industry. As a result, adherence to the current condition of licence is extremely difficult without resorting to an unreasonable amount of repetition.
Licensee's address: 81 Barber Greene Road Toronto, Ontario M3C 2A2 Fax: (416) 446-5544 |
