Enhanced local calling feature

The Commission received an application by Aliant Telecom Inc. (Aliant Telecom), dated 21 October 2003 and amended on 26 November 2003 and on 9 December 2003, to introduce General Tariff item 304, Enhanced Local Calling (Calling Features) and to transfer the following items to Aliant Telecom's General Tariff:
  • Maritime Tel & Tel Limited General Tariff item 1600;
  • Island Telecom Inc. (IslandTel) General Tariff item 800;
  • NBTel Inc. (NBTel) General Tariff items 22.7, 200, 205 and 216 as well as NBTel Special Services Tariff items 5066 and 5067; and
  • NewTel Communications Inc. General Tariff items 385 and 391.

Aliant Telecom submitted that there are no changes to the rate or conditions of service, and that the filing is strictly to migrate the services.

Aliant Telecom also proposed to change the name of Distinctive Ringing service and Select Ring to Ident-A-Call service. The Company is also changing the name of Call Return (last call) to Last Call Return, and Call Return (busy) to Busy Call Return. The Company is also renaming Name Inquiry Service in New Brunswick to Name That Number Service, Basic Residence Mailbox in Newfoundland and Labrador to Call Answer, Name Display in New Brunswick to Call Display, Call Display in New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador to Number Display and Call Display Name and Number in Newfoundland and Labrador to Call Display.

The company further proposed to remove IslandTel General Tariff item 800.9, Surfing Simplicity, since it is an expired promotion. Also, the calling feature Call Forward Busy/No Answer is being copied into the calling features section of the tariff.

Aliant Telecom also proposed modifications to the approved Aliant Telecom tariff for TalkMail in New Brunswick to match the rates for TalkMail service in NBTel Special Services item 5066.1.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

The Commission approves Aliant Telecom's application. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order.
