Northwestel Inc.

Ethernet metropolitan area network service

1.

The Commission received an application by Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel), dated 14 April 2004, to introduce General Tariff item 1118, Ethernet Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) Service, in order to offer interconnection between multiple premises of the same customer with end-to-end Ethernet service over fibre optic cable.

2.

Northwestel submitted that the service will allow customers in Whitehorse and Yellowknife to address new applications with Ethernet protocol at faster speeds without protocol conversion or equipment updates.

3.

Northwestel filed an economic evaluation study in support of its application.

4.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

5.

The Commission finds that the economic evaluation study is satisfactory.

6.

The Commission approves Northwestel's application. The revisions take effect as of 31 May 2004.
