To: Parties to Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2004-1, Review and disposition of deferral accounts for the second price cap period, 24 March 2004 (PN 2004-1)

Dear Sir/Madam:

Re   PN 2004-1, Request by Aliant Telecom Inc. for suspension from proceeding

In a letter dated 28 May 2004, Aliant Telecom Inc. (Aliant Telecom) notified the Commission that it would be unable to fully participate in the Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2004-1 (PN 2004-1) proceeding due to continuing labour disruption.   Aliant Telecom requested that the Commission permit it to make its proposals regarding the treatment of any amount in its deferral account at a date to be identified later pending the resolution of the labour disruption.   Aliant Telecom also requested that other parties be permitted to address interrogatories and file comments and reply comments on Aliant Telecom's proposal under similar timelines as established in PN 2004-1.   In addition, Aliant Telecom requested that the Commission not make any determinations concerning the treatment of amounts in its deferral account until such time.

In light of the labour circumstances mentioned above, staff considers that Aliant Telecom's request to make its proposals regarding the treatment of the amount in its deferral account to a later date appropriate.   Interested parties to this proceeding will be notified when the Commission is prepared to proceed with respect to Aliant Telecom .   Parties may however submit interrogatories to Aliant Telecom regarding the amount of funds in its deferral account.

Yours sincerely,
