Subject: CRTC Telecommunications Industry Data Collection

Sir or Madam

The CRTC has today commenced its annual data collection with the launch of a new secure web based Data Collection System (DCS) . The DCS is being deployed in two stages, the issuing of a Reporting Entity Profile (REP) form now, static copies of which can be viewed on our web site, and the issuing of detailed entity data forms at the beginning of March.

This system will collect 2003 data to support the following Commission activities:
1) Telecommunications Fees;
2) The Contribution Regime;
3) Registration Lists Contact Information;
4) Data for the annual preparation of the Report to the Governor in Council (Monitoring Report); and
5) International Licence Renewals.

The DCS is only accessible using a user ID and password, and in order to help users with the new system the Commission will be holding several information sessions over the next few weeks to explain the system and help telecommunications entities with their initial registration. The first of these sessions will be held in Ottawa on Tuesday 10 February 2004 with other sessions, depending on demand, held in Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal and Toronto over the next two weeks.

In order to help us with our planning, if you wish to attend any of the sessions, please e-mail telinfo@crtc.gc.ca indicating how many places you wish to reserve.  Details of the additional information sessions will be announced on our web site at http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/dcs/2004/index.htm
