W Network - Licence amendment

1.

The Commission approves the application by W Network Inc. to amend condition of licence 3.(a) for the specialty television undertaking known as W Network. The condition of licence currently reads as follows:

In each broadcast year, the licensee shall expend on Canadian programs not less than 41% of the previous broadcast year's gross revenues.

2.

As proposed by the licensee, the Commission hereby replaces the above condition of licence with the following:

3.(a) In each broadcast year, the licensee shall expend on Canadian programs, on a cash basis, not less than 41% of the previous broadcast year's gross revenues.

3.

The licensee submitted that the proposed change would allow it to calculate its Canadian programming expenditures on a cash, rather than an accrual basis, as it does for three of its other services.

4.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

5.

The Commission notes that this change relates to accounting methodology and will not affect the licensee's total Canadian programming expenditures over the licence term.
