Telecom Order CRTC 2003-79

Ottawa, 19 February 2003

Aliant Telecom Inc.

Reference: Tariff Notice 59

Provincial Enhanced 9-1-1 service

The Commission received an application by Aliant Telecom Inc. (Aliant Telecom), dated 2 December 2002, to revise NBTel Inc.'s General Tariff item 620, Provincial Enhanced 9-1-1 Service, in order to reduce the 9-1-1 monthly rate of $0.32 to $0.31 per working telephone number and from $0.16 to $0.1575 per wireless service provider (WSP) working telephone number.

In its application, Aliant Telecom noted that the proposed revisions were submitted pursuant to the directives set out in 9-1-1 Service - Rates for Wireless Service Providers, Centrex Customers and Multi-Line Customers/Manual Access to the Automatic Location Identification Database, Telecom Decision CRTC 99-17, 29 October 1999 (Decision 99-17), as amended in Rates modified for province-wide 9-1-1 service, Order CRTC 2000-630, 6 July 2000.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

The Commission notes that, pursuant to Decision 99-17, the rates for WSPs per working telephone number are to be 50% of the 9-1-1 rate. Accordingly, the Commission directs Aliant Telecom to replace the proposed 9-1-1 rate of $0.1575 per WSP working telephone number with the rate of $0.1550 per WSP working telephone number.

The Commission approves Aliant Telecom's application, subject to the modification noted in paragraph 4. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order.
