Telecom Order CRTC 2003-314

  Ottawa, 7 August 2003

Aliant Telecom Inc.

  Reference: Tariff Notice 88

Hospital Patient Telephone Service

1.

The Commission received an application by Aliant Telecom Inc. (Aliant Telecom), dated 13 June 2003 and modified in a letter dated 2 July 2003, in order to migrate Hospital Patient Telephone Service (HPTS) as item 348 of its General Tariff, and remove the references to this service from the General Tariff of the following companies: Island Telecom Inc., Maritime Tel & Tel Limited (MTT), NBTel Inc. and NewTel Communications Inc.

2.

Aliant Telecom noted that in Nova Scotia, there was previously a $10 service charge in the MTT tariff for processing a phone order for patients in hospital. Aliant Telecom further noted that the rate for the order processing service charge had been substituted, in error, for this $10 charge when the service charges of the Aliant Telecom companies were amalgamated. Aliant Telecom proposed to correct this error by including a $10 subscription charge in the proposed HPTS for Nova Scotia. Aliant Telecom also proposed to change the reference to a Touch Tone Dial -  In - Handset telephone to a Touch Tone Dial telephone.

3.

Aliant Telecom also requested that, pursuant to subsection 25(4) of the Telecommunications Act (the Act),the Commission ratify the rate associated with HPTS for Nova Scotia, for the period of 2 August 2002, the effective date of the tariff approved in Telecom Order CRTC 2002-326, to the effective date of this order.

4.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

5.

The Commission notes that the tariff amalgamation proposed by Aliant Telecom does not result in any changes in the rates, terms and conditions of the service.

6.

The Commission approves Aliant Telecom's application and ratifies pursuant to subsection 25(4) of the Act the charging of a rate by Aliant Telecom otherwise in accordance with a tariff approved by the Commission. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order.
