Telecom Order CRTC 2003-298

  Ottawa, 24 July 2003

TELUS Communications Inc.

  Reference: Tariff Notice 107

Dial virtual point of presence usage service

1.

The Commission received an application by TELUS Communications Inc. (TCI), dated 16 June 2003, to introduce item 524, Dial Virtual Point of Presence (VPOP) Usage Service, to its General Tariff in order to offer the service in selected geographical areas of Alberta and British Columbia.

2.

TCI's proposed Dial VPOP usage service would provide customers with a package of remote access service capabilities. The proposed service would enable customers, such as Internet service providers, to provide remote access to the Internet via analogue and integrated services digital network access technologies without establishing a physical installation of modems and access facilities in the community where the service would be offered.

3.

TCI submitted that it is currently providing a similar Internet dial access port service under contracts to a number of customers and is proposing to give these customers the option to either continue their existing contracts until expiry or to migrate their agreements to the proposed service offered under item 524. TCI also indicated that, concurrent with this filing, it notified existing customers about the tariff application.

4.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

5.

The Commission approves TCI's application. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order for existing customers and on 9 October 2003 for new customers.
