Telecom Order CRTC 2003-194

  Ottawa, 15 May 2003

TELUS Communications Inc.

  Reference: Tariff Notice 96

Introduction of the Caller Reveal feature

1.

The Commission received an application by TELUS Communications Inc. (TCI), dated 28 March 2003, in order to introduce the Caller Reveal feature to its General Tariff item 300, Call Management Services.

2.

Caller Reveal is an optional enhancement to Call Display feature which would provide all residential customers in Alberta and British Columbia with greater control to identify incoming calls on which the number is marked "private", "unknown" or "out of area" by asking such callers to unblock their line or enter a telephone number for display.

3.

TCI submitted that Caller Reveal was simpler and easier to use than Anonymous Caller ID because subscribers would be able to answer a call by just picking up the handset. The caller would also experience a shorter holding time since the Caller Reveal subscriber can accept the call quicker. Anonymous Caller ID will continue to be offered for customers who require its advanced functionality.

4.

TCI proposed to offer the service at $4.00 per month, or $3.00 per month if the customer also subscribes to the Residence Value Bundle (item 302) or to the Residence No Limits Bundle (item 303).

5.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

6.

The Commission approves TCI's application. The revisions take effect as of 23 June 2003.
