Telecom Order CRTC 2003-164

Ottawa, 25 April 2003

NorthernTel Limited Partnership

Reference: Tariff Notice 189

Smart Package

1.

The Commission received an application by NorthernTel Limited Partnership (NorthernTel), dated 20 March 2003, to revise item 11, Smart Package, under section N490 of its General Tariff in order to allow customers in the Kenogamissi Lake, an area located within the Timmins exchange, to subscribe to a Smart Package.

2.

The Commission notes that in Regulatory framework for the small incumbent telephone companies, Decision CRTC 2001-756, 14 December 2001 (Decision 2001-756), it assigned the services in question to the fourth price cap basket. In that decision, the Commission determined that rates for such services would generally be permitted to increase up to any already approved rate for the same service.

3.

The Commission finds that the proposed rates are identical to the rates already approved for Abitibi Canyon, Gowganda, Mattice and Opasatika exchanges and, therefore are in accordance with Decision 2001-756.

4.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

5.

The Commission approves NorthernTel's application. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order.

6.

NorthernTel is to issue a revised tariff page forthwith to reflect this change.
