Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2003-334

  Ottawa, 24 July 2003
  Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Toronto, Elliott Lake and Little Current, Ontario
  Application 2003-0072-3
Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2003-24
2 May 2003

CBLT Toronto - New transmitters

1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the broadcasting licence for the television programming undertaking CBLT Toronto in order to operate transmitters in Elliott Lake and Little Current.
2. The transmitters will enable viewers in the above-mentioned communities to receive the programming originating from CBLT Toronto. The transmitters will operate as follows:
Call sign Location Effective radiated power
(watts)
Channel
CBEC-TV Elliott Lake 34,000 7
CBCE-TV Little Current 23,700 16
3. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
4. The Commission notes that the above-noted transmitters are currently operated by the CBC as radiocommunication distribution undertakings (RDUs), which rebroadcast the programming of CKNC-TV Sudbury. The Commission further notes that in CBLT Toronto - new transmitters, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2002-303, 10 October 2002, the application by the CBC to acquire CKNC-TV from CTV Television Inc. and the addition of the station to CBLT's licence was approved.
5. The CBC noted that it is thus no longer necessary to hold separate RDU licences for the above-mentioned transmitters, and has asked that the licences be revoked.
6. Accordingly, the Commission, pursuant to sections 9(1)(e) and 24 (2) of the Broadcasting Act, revokes the broadcasting licences issued to the CBC in respect of the above-noted RDUs.
