Application by SASKATCHEWAN TELECOMMUNICATIONS (SaskTel) to amend the condition of licence authorizing the licensee to carry a set of 4+1 U.S. television network signals as part of the basic service of its broadcasting distribution undertakings serving the aforementioned localities. |
Usually, the Commission authorizes the carriage of a set of 4+1 U.S. television network signals to broadcasting distribution undertakings by specifying the various call letters for each of the 4+1 U.S. television network signals being carried. Therefore, in Decision CRTC 2001-171 dated 12 March 2001, the Commission approved the following condition of licence regarding the carriage of the 4+1 U.S. television network signals on the basic service of SaskTel: |
In addition to the services required or authorized to be distributed pursuant to the applicable section of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations, the licensee is authorized, by condition of licence, to distribute, at its option and as part of the basic service: |
Instead of the above condition of licence, SaskTel proposes a general condition of licence, which would not specify the various call letters for each of the 4+1 U.S. television network signals, but rather, would refer more generally to four non-Canadian television stations affiliated with a different commercial network and one non-Canadian non-commercial television station from the same time zone for which SaskTel was already authorized. |
The proposed condition of licence is as follows: |
Should the above proposal not be accepted, SaskTel has asked that the 4+1 U.S. television network signals stipulated in condition of licence no. 2 of Decision CRTC 2001-171 be replaced by the following list of U.S. television network signals: |
