Telecom Order CRTC 2002-245

Ottawa, 28 June 2002

Northwestel Inc.
Reference: Tariff notice 777

Payphone analog cellular network service market trial

The Commission received an application by Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel), dated 3 May 2002, to introduce General Tariff item 1703, Payphone Analog Cellular Network Service Market Trial, in order to provide a one-year market trial for Payphone Analog Cellular Network Service (PACNS).

PACNS addresses the need to provide payphone service to remote areas that are difficult and/or uneconomical to serve with traditional wireline cable assignment. The proposed PACNS allows for the provision of outgoing message service from a wireless network and telephone equipment to the general public using standard payment options such as credit card and prepaid calling cards at a public payphone.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

The Commission approves Northwestel's application. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order.
