Dear Ms. Lawson:

Re: Follow-up to Decision CRTC 2002-34 re: Service Classifications - Request for modification to schedule

In Regulatory Framework for Second Price Cap, Telecom Decision CRTC 2002-34, 30 May 2002, the Commission initiated a follow-up process with respect to the service classifications. The decision stated that comments were to be received by 17 July 2002 and reply comments were to be received by 29 July 2002.

On 19 June 2002, the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) filed on behalf of ARC et al a request to extend the deadline for reply comments with respect to service classifications, and copied the interested parties to the price cap review proceeding. PIAC noted that the decision prescribed a relatively short period for reply comments and requested that the process allow at least 12 working days between the date for comments and the date for reply comments. PIAC submitted that there would be no prejudice to any party as a result of an extension to this deadline.

As the proposed extension to the filing of reply comments would not impact the filing by the telephone companies of their service basket indices by 1 August 2002, PIAC's request to extend the deadline for filing reply comments is acceptable. Reply comments are to be filed with the Commission and served on interested parties by 2 August 2002. The information is to be received, not merely sent by the prescribed date.

Yours sincerely,
