Order CRTC 2001-836

Ottawa, 20 November 2001

CRTC approves Bell Canada's Special Facilities Tariff pages renumbering proposal and offering on Bell Canada's Internet site

Reference: Bell Canada tariff notice 6619

1.

Under tariff notice 6619, dated 12 October 2001, Bell Canada filed an application proposing a revision to its Special Facilities Tariff (SFT) CRTC 7396 and to the General Tariff, Item 26 "Sale of tariffs".

2.

Specifically, Bell Canada proposed:

· the complete renumbering of the SFT pages; and
· the addition of the SFT, as a publicly available, no-charge service, accessible through Bell Canada's Internet site at www.bell.ca.

3.

Co-incident with the filing, Bell Canada proposed to discontinue the paper version of its tariff subscription service for the SFT pages. For those customers who have subscribed to the SFT paper version, Bell Canada intends to provide a rebate, prorated to the time remaining on their subscription after the effective date of the availability of the free-of-charge on-line service.

4.

Bell Canada stated that, with the proposed renumbering of the tariff items and offering of the SFT on Bell Canada's web site, the check pages listing was no longer considered to be useful, as the item, page and revision numbers would not match the new tariff item information. Furthermore, the tariff pages will always be current on Bell Canada's web site and an historical section is available for those customers wishing to obtain previous revised pages. Instead, Bell Canada has replaced the check pages listing by adding a listing that cross-references the old tariff item number to the new tariff item number, which will be more useful to customers who retain their paper version of this tariff.

5.

The Commission notes that, as approved in Order 2000-552, Bell Canada's replacement for tariff subscription service approved for Internet delivery, dated 16 June 2000, Bell Canada replaced its paper-based tariff subscription service with a publicly-available, no-charge web site for the General Tariff, National Services Tariff, Exchange Services Tariff, and Access Services Tariff. Further, this application reflects Bell Canada's continuing commitment to make tariffs available on its web site as approved in Order 2000-552.

6.

The Commission approves the application, except for the proposal to discontinue the check pages. The Commission considers that it is useful to cross-reference old tariff item numbers to new tariff item numbers. However, the Commission considers that, while the tariff pages will always be current on Bell Canada's web site, the check pages should continue to be filed to ensure the accuracy of the Commission's official copy of the tariff pages.

7.

The revisions take effect two weeks from the date of this order.
