Isle Madame, Nova Scotia |
Application by TELILE ISLE MADAME COMMUNITY TELEVISION ASSOCIATION for a licence to operate an English and French-language television station at Isle Madame. |
In Decision CRTC 2000-46 dated 17 February 2000, the Commission approved Telile: Isle Madame Community Television Association's application to carry on a low-power television programming undertaking to serve Isle Madame, Nova Scotia. The Commission's approval was subject to the condition that the undertaking be in operation within 12 months of the date of the decision (by 17 February 2001). In the event that the licensee was unable to commence operation before that date, it was required to apply to the Commission in writing to extend the implementation date. |
The new station would operate on channel 10 with a transmitter power of 450 watts. |
Since the licensee did not apply for an extension of time before the 12-month period expired, it must apply to the Commission for a new licence to carry on television programming undertaking to serve Isle Madame. |
The Commission notes that the current proposal for a conventional (full-power) television station is very similar to the one approved in February 2000 for a low-power television station. |
The applicant has requested to be relieved, by condition of licence, from the requirements of Section 10(1) to 10(4) of the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987 with regard to the retention of program logs or records. |

These broadcasting distribution undertakings are owned and controlled by the Stinson Family. |
The Commission notes that the application proposing a new Class 3 licence envisions a service area composed of subscribers currently located in the service areas of the two existing Class 2 licences (see above) held by the Stinson Family. |
The Commission further notes that approval of these applications would establish three licensed service areas, each having fewer than 2,000 subscribers and therefore becoming Class 3s. Therefore, the monthly rates for these systems would no longer be regulated. |
However, the Commission also notes that all systems would continue to be fully interconnected, with a singled headend, and would therefore not meet the criteria for exemption. |
