Ottawa, 15 May 2001 |
|
The Commission has received the following applications: |

1. |
Sydney, Nova Scotia |
Application for authority to transfer 55% of all issued and outstanding shares of Bras d'Or Broadcasting Limited (Bras d'Or) which owns and operates the radio programming undertaking CHER serving Sydney to Maritime Broadcasting System Limited (MBS). MBS currently owns 40% shares in Bras d'Or. |
|
If approved, the transaction will result in MBS owning 95% shares of Bras d'Or. MBS currently controls 10 stations out of the 23 commercial radio stations in Nova Scotia. Approval of the current proposal would result in MBS assuming ownership and control of 11 commercial radio stations in the province. Consequently, the Commission seeks public comments on the level of concentration of ownership in the Province of Nova Scotia and the possible impact it may have on diversity of programming and voices. |
