To: Interested Parties to Public Notice 2001-34 CRTC seeks public input on telemarketing rules.

Re: Supplementary Interrogatories sent 14 September 2001 - Extension of filing date for responses.

In a 14 September 2001 letter supplementary interrogatories were issued to specific parties pursuant to PN 2001-34. The letter required the responses to be filed by 5 October 2001.

All parties who responded to this letter requested that the filing date be extended by at least 6 weeks or more. In their response, a number of parties noted that the interrogatories were complex, and that developing responses would require considerable time, resources, and coordination of efforts on the part of various groups. Parties also indicated that their resources were committed to other proceedings, notably PN 2001-37.

In consideration of these factors, and in order that all parties benefit by the information to be provided, it is reasonable and appropriate that the date for filing responses to the supplementary interrogatories be extended. Accordingly, the procedure set out in CRTC PN 2001-34 (as modified by letter of 16 August 2001) is modified as set out below:

  1. Responses to the 14 September 2001 supplementary interrogatories are to be filed with the Commission and served on all interested parties by 30 November, 2001.
  2. Any person, including interested parties, may file comments by 21 December, 2001.

Any person who wishes merely to file written comments in this proceeding, without receiving copies of the various submissions, may do so by writing to the Commission at Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A ON2, or by sending an e-mail to the Commission at procedure@crtc.gc.ca by 21 December 2001. Submissions longer than five pages should include a summary. Alternatively, they may call the Commission at 1-877-249-2782 to express their views on the issues raised in this proceeding. The Commission will make these comments given by phone available on its website.

However, interested parties who have registered with the Commission, and those who have been added to the list of interested parties in the Commission's letter of 14 September 21, 2001 (Call-Net Communications Inc., Gateway Telephone Limited, and Halifax Cablevision) shall serve a copy of their comments on all other parties. Submissions longer than five pages should include a summary.

  3. Interested parties may file reply comments with the Commission serving a copy on all other parties by 11 January 2002.
  4. Where a document is to be filed or served by a specific date, the document must be actually received, not merely mailed, by that date.

Yours sincerely,
