Amendments to conditions of licence pertaining to network affiliation

1.

The Commission approves the applications by CTV Television Inc. on behalf of the three broadcasters noted above, for amendments to their current conditions of licence pertaining to network affiliation.

2.

Thunder Bay Electronics Inc., Norcom Communications Limited, and Mid-West Television Ltd. are licensees, respectively, of the English-language television stations CHFD-TV Thunder Bay, CJBN-TV Kenora and of CITL-TV Lloydminster and its transmitters. These three companies are owned independently of CTV Television Inc. In each case, the licensee is subject to an existing condition requiring the licensee to operate its broadcasting undertaking as part of the network operated by CTV Television Network Ltd.

3.

In Decision CRTC 2001-507 of today's date, the Commission has issued a licence to CTV Television Inc. to carry on a new television network for the purpose of providing programming to the three independently-owned broadcasters.

4.

Accordingly and as proposed, the Commission amends the licences for each of CHFD-TV, CJBN-TV and CITL-TV by deleting the existing condition relating to network affiliation and replacing it with the following:

The licensee shall operate this broadcasting undertaking as part of the network operated by CTV Television Inc.

5.

The Commission notes that the new network will provide news and sports programming, and may also originate some non-news, non-sports, entertainment programming for delivery to the three stations.
