Decision CRTC 2001-417

Ottawa, 19 July 2001

Radio Nord inc.
Rouyn-Noranda and Amos/Val-d'Or, Quebec 2001-0115-5

Application processed by
Public Notice CRTC 2001-45
dated 20 April 2001

Licence renewal for CHLM-FM

1.

The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for CHLM-FM Rouyn-Noranda, and its transmitters serving the additional locations noted above, from 1 September 2001 to 31 August 2008, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued, as also set out in Public Notice CRTC 1999-137.

2.

The licensee must, by condition of licence, devote 95% of all musical selections broadcast to French-language vocal music. The Commission notes that the licensee has filed an application (application number 2001-0721-0) to amend this condition of licence. This application will be the subject of a public notice in the near future.

3.

The Commission encourages the licensee to consider employment equity issues in its hiring practices and in all other aspects of its management of human resources (Public Notice CRTC 1992-59).

4.

Section 22 of the Broadcasting Act states that the Commission may not renew a licence unless the Department of Industry has certified that the licensee has been or will be issued a broadcasting certificate. Accordingly, this renewal is subject to the issuance of technical certification by the Department of Industry.

5.

The Commission has examined the submission filed by the Association québécoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacle et de la vidéo (ADISQ) regarding this licence renewal application.
