Applications for new commercial FM stations to serve Vancouver - Denied |

At the 20 November 2000 hearing, the Commission heard eleven applications for new FM radio stations that proposed to serve Vancouver on the frequency 94.5 MHz. Ten of the applicants proposed to use the frequency to establish commercial FM stations, while the CBC proposed a station that would broadcast the programming of its French-language network service La Chaîne culturelle. |

In Decision CRTC 2001-312 issued today, the Commission has approved the application by FOCUS Entertainment Group Inc. (Focus) for a new commercial FM station on the frequency 94.5 MHz. In Decision CRTC 2001-313 the Commission approved in part the CBC application, but required the Corporation to submit application proposing the use of another frequency. |

The applications listed above, which were competitive with those of Focus and the CBC, are denied. |

The Commission's rationale for its decisions on the competing radio applications considered at the Burnaby hearing is set out in Public Notice CRTC 2001-63, also issued today and in Decision CRTC 2001-312 which approves the Focus application. |
