Licence amendment for CHIM-FM Timmins

1.

The Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CHIM-FM Timmins (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add a transmitter at New Liskeard.

2.

This transmitter will enable the licensee to offer a Christian music service to residents of New Liskeard.

3.

The licensee states that the proposed transmitter will run the same programming at the same time as the main station in Timmins, via long distance land lines and with the aid of a remotely-accessed local computer located in New Liskeard.

4.

As proposed, the new FM transmitter will operate on frequency 103.5 MHz, channel 278LP, with an effective radiated power of 1.3 watts.

The authority will be effective and the licence will be amended only at such time as:

 
  • the licensee confirms in writing that it is ready to begin operation of the transmitter. This must take place within 12 months of today's date. Any request for an extension to that deadline requires Commission approval and must be made in writing within that period.
 
  • the Department of Industry, having advised that the application is conditionally technically acceptable, has determined that there is no unacceptable interference with NAV/COM services and indicated that it will issue a broadcasting certificate (section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act).

The technical parameters approved in this decision are for a low-power unprotected FM service. The applicant will have to select another frequency if required to do so to permit the best use of the frequency band.
