Dear Ms. Bell:

Re:  Application No. 2001-0449-8 - Approved
Request to extend the CanWest Trust in respect of certain voting interests in CF Television Inc.
CF Television Inc., licensee of CFCF-TV Montreal

Reference is made to your letter of 23 March 2001. The Commission has considered your request for authority to extend the trust arrangements established with respect to CanWest Global Communications Corp. (CanWest Global)'s indirect 70% voting interest in CF Television Inc., licensee of CFCF-TV Montreal. The Commission notes that the current trust expires on 30 March 2001.

The Commission has decided, in the circumstances, to extend the trust arrangements to 31 May 2001.

The Commission advises that it may consider the imposition of conditions in the context of the 31 May 2001 renewal (if any), should it appear that the sale of the CF Television Inc.'s interests is not proceeding to completion in an expeditious manner. For example, the Commission may consider the imposition of a firm deadline for completion of the sale.

All letters of approval issued by the Commission are made available for public examination at the Commission's central office. Reference to this letter will be made available at the Commission's web site at www.crtc.gc.ca. The Commission also requires you to append this letter to the CFCF-TV licence.

Finally, this authority is not to be interpreted in any way as an indication that the Commission is predisposed to authorize the subsequent applications relating to the transaction.

Yours sincerely,

Ursula Menke
Secretary General
