Decision CRTC 2001-13

Ottawa, 17 January 2001

CANAL, Corporation pour l'avancement de nouvelles applications des langages ltée
Montréal, Quebec 2000-0680-1

Application processed by Public Notice CRTC 2000-112 dated 4 August 2000

Licence renewal for CFTU-TV (Canal Savoir)

1.

The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the television programming undertaking CFTU-TV Montréal, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued.

2.

The licensee operates the station under the name "Canal Savoir".

3.

Canal Savoir does not carry any advertising and does not plan to do so. Members who produce courses may, however, accept institutional advertising to help finance their programming.

4.

It is a condition of licence that the licensee adhere to the guidelines on the depiction of violence in television programming set out in the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Voluntary code regarding violence in television programming, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.

5.

The Commission encourages the licensee to close-caption 75% of its programming aired over the broadcast day by the end of the new licence term.

6.

The Commission also encourages the licensee to consider employment equity issues in its hiring practices and in all other aspects of its management of human resources (PN 1992-59).
