TELETOON MULTI

 

On 24 November 2000, the Commission approved a Category 2 specialty television service to be known as TELETOON MULTI. The terms and conditions generally applicable to Category 2 services are set out in the public notice accompanying this and other decisions released today.

 

Conditions of licence

 

The licence, when issued, will expire 31 August 2007 and will be subject to the following conditions as well as to those set out in both Public Notice CRTC 2000-171 andin the licence to be issued.

 

Nature of service

 

a) The licensee shall provide a national ethnic Category 2 specialty television service that will present animation for the wide cultural mosaic that forms Canadian society. The licensee shall offer animated programming, movies, specials, series and shorts from around the world in the language of origin. The licensee shall also offer animated programming versioned into minority languages.

 

b) The programming must be drawn exclusively from the following categories, as set out in Schedule I to the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990:
1, 2a, 2b, 3, 4, 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d, 7e, 7f, 7g, 8a, 8b, 8c, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

 

c) With the exception of materials drawn from categories 12 and 15, no less than 90% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast week shall be animated programs drawn from category 7d, 7e and 7g, as set out in Schedule I to the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990.

 

d) No more than 10% of all programming broadcast each week shall be non-animated programs drawn from categories other than 7d, 7e, 7g, 12 and 15.

 

e) All of the animated programs drawn from category 7d, 7e and 7g shall be in languages other than French or English.

 

f) Programming shall be offered in no less than four different languages other than English or French.

 

g) No more than 25% of the programming schedule shall be in any one language.

 

Definitions

 

Broadcast day shall have the same meaning as that set out in section 2 of the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987.
