Public Notice CRTC 2000-2

Ottawa, 7 January 2000
The Commission has received the following application:

ONTARIO REGION / RÉGION DE L’ONTARIO

1. TORONTO, Ontario
Application (199810411) by RAWLCO (TORONTO) LTD.,
a) to renew the broadcasting licence for CISS-FM Toronto expiring 29 February 2000, and
b) to amend the licence as follows:
- by adding a condition that will suspend the application of the condition of licence on sex-role portrayal as long as the licensee remains a member in good standing of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council;
- by adding a condition that will require the station to continue to devote, in any broadcast week, 40% or more of its musical selections from content category 2 to Canadian selections broadcast in their entirety.
The Radio Regulations, 1986 require commercial radio stations to broadcast a weekly level of at least 35% for Canadian popular music. In Public Notice CRTC 1998-4 however, the Commission noted that some licensees "…are required to broadcast higher levels than the required minimum…and expects these licensees to continue with their current commitments." The licensee’s level of 40% for Canadian content was approved in Decision CRTC 95-630.
