Order CRTC 2000-1047

Ottawa, 22 November 2000

CRTC denies TCI's extension of Centrex Contract Signing Bonus Promotion

Reference: Tariff Notice 292

1.

The Commission denies TELUS Communications Inc.'s application to extend its Centrex Contract Signing Bonus Promotion.

2.

The company submitted that the average benefit period for this promotion is 1.5 months and that the enrolment period can therefore be extended to 22 December 2000.

3.

The Commission is not persuaded that the use of an average benefit period is appropriate.

4.

The Commission notes that, depending on the size of the Centrex system and the length of the contract to which a customer commits, the benefit period is one, two or three months. Further, with the proposed extension, the sum of the enrolment period plus the benefit period would exceed twelve months for the two- and three-month benefit periods.

5.

TCI filed the application on 6 October 2000 proposing revisions to Item 735 of its General Tariff.
