Decision CRTC 2000-55

Ottawa, 25 February 2000
NBTel Inc.
Saint John and surrounding areas, Moncton and surrounding areas, New Brunswick – 199913942
Application processed by
Public Notice CRTC 2000-4
dated 10 January 2000
Addition of U.S. 4+1 television signals

1.

In Decision CRTC 98-194 dated 23 June 1998, the Commission approved NBTel Inc.’s application to carry on a new cable distribution undertaking to serve Saint John and Moncton and their surrounding areas.

2.

NBTel proposed to distribute, as part of the basic service, the signal of one U.S. television station affiliated with each of the following networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and FOX. The Commission requested that NBTel provide a list of the specific U.S. signals that it proposed to distribute on its undertaking and indicate the method of reception.

3.

The Commission authorizes the licensee to distribute, at its option, the signals of WCVB-TV (ABC), WBZ-TV (CBS), WHDH-TV (NBC), WGBH-TV (PBS) Boston, Massachusetts and WUHF (FOX) Rochester, New York, as part of the basic service. The Commission notes that the licensee will receive these signals from a licensed satellite relay distribution undertaking.

4.

The licensee may receive any authorized signals over the air, or from any licensed or exempted Canadian broadcasting distribution undertaking authorized to provide signals to other broadcasting distribution undertakings.
