Jazz & Blues TV

 

On 24 November 2000, the Commission approved a Category 2 specialty television service to be known as Jazz & Blues TV. The terms and conditions generally applicable to Category 2 services are set out in the public notice accompanying this and other decisions released today.

 

Conditions of licence

 

The licence, when issued, will expire 31 August 2007 and will be subject to the following conditions as well as to those set out in both Public Notice CRTC 2000-171 andin the licence to be issued.

 

Nature of service

 

a) The licensee shall provide a national English-language Category 2 specialty music video television service dedicated to jazz and blues music and related programming.

 

b) The programming must be drawn exclusively from the following categories, as set out in Schedule I to the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990:
2b, 5b, 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d, 7e, 7f, 7g, 8a, 8b, 8c, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14.

 

c) No more than 60% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast week shall be drawn from categories 8b and 8c.

 

d) No more than 10% of the evening broadcast period or 10% of the broadcast day shall be drawn from category 7d, and all such programming shall have jazz or blues as a focus.

 

e) No more than 15% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast week shall be drawn from category 7.

 

f) No less than 80% of the musical selections broadcast during the broadcast week shall be drawn from content subcategory 34 (jazz and blues), as defined in Public Notice CRTC 2000-14, as amended from time to time.

 

Definitions

 

Broadcast day refers to the 24-hour period beginning 6 a.m. each day.
