31 January 2000 Public Hearing Toronto |
|
Summary |
|
The Commission denies 13 applications, either for licences for new AM or FM undertakings, or for amendments to the licences of existing Toronto, Ajax and Timmins radio stations. Three applications have been approved in Decisions CRTC 2000-203 to 2000-205, published today. | |
1. |
In Notice of Public Hearing CRTC 1999-12, the Commission announced that a Public Hearing would be held in Toronto beginning on 31 January 2000, to consider various applications, among them a total of 19 varied proposals to serve the radio audience of Toronto. |
2. |
Three of the applications scheduled for consideration at the hearing were withdrawn by the applicants before their proposals were heard, and are listed in the appendix to this decision. |
3. |
The Commission carefully evaluated each of the applications presented at the Toronto public hearing. As further discussed in Public Notice CRTC 2000-84, the Commission has approved three of the applications considered. |
4. |
The three applications that have been approved will employ the three proposed frequencies available for use independently in the Toronto area. Each of the remaining applications proposed the use of either one of the frequencies awarded or one that would be technically incompatible with the use of one that was approved. Consequently, all of the remaining applications listed in the appendix to this decision are denied. |
