File Nos.: 8698-C12-04/99 and 96-2376

1. On 24 September 1999, Science Applications International Corporation Canada (SAIC Canada), in its role as the Canadian Numbering Administrator (CNA), convened an initial numbering plan area (NPA) relief planning meeting to develop the NPA relief plan for area code 604, which is projected to exhaust first quarter of 2004. The next meeting is scheduled for 9 December 1999.

2. On 29 October 1999, the CNA announced the establishment of an NPA Relief Planning Committee to develop the NPA relief plan for area code 905, which is projected to exhaust second quarter of 2004. The initial meeting has been scheduled for 16 December 1999.

3. In order to increase public awareness and involvement, the Commission has determined that NPA relief planning committees will be established as Ad Hoc Committees of the CRTC Interconnection Steering Committee (CISC). As such, the NPA relief planning coordinator, the CNA, is to report to the CISC following the established CISC procedures.

4. The Ad Hoc committees shall forward to the CRTC for approval, via the CISC, a proposed NPA relief plan, including the proposed method and schedule of implementation, for the 604 and 905 NPAs.

5. The Commission understands that the CISC Canadian Steering Committee on Numbering (CSCN) is currently reviewing and adjusting the existing industry NPA relief planning guidelines. Interested parties have been notified of this and are encouraged to participate.

6. The Commission understands the objective of the CSCN is to complete the work on these Guidelines in early 2000, at which time they will be forwarded to the CRTC, via the CISC process, for approval.

7. Persons wishing to participate in either (or both) of the 604 and 905 NPA relief committees or who otherwise would like to receive the documentation relating to the work of the committees must notify the Commission of their intention to do so, specifying whether their interest relates to the 604 or the 905 committees, by writing to the Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0N2, fax: 819- 953-0795, within 30 days of the date of this Public Notice. The Commission will issue a separate list of interested parties for each of the 604 and 905 NPA relief committees. In addition, information regarding upcoming meetings, the Initial Planning Document (IPD) and related information can be accessed via the office of the CNA at www.cnac.ca or by contacting SAIC Canada at 613-563-7242.
