Télébec ltée - Proposed Modifications to Local Calling Rates for Public and Semi-public Pay Telephones

1.The Commission has received an application dated 21 May 1999 under Tariff Notice (TN) 220 from Télébec ltée (Télébec) proposing to: (1) increase its local calling rate for its public and semi-public pay telephones (excluding those located in a hospital or in a local community services centre) from $0.25 to $0.50 for the cash payment option; and (2) decrease its local calling rate for its public and semi-public pay telephones from $0.75 to $0.50 for the calling card payment option.
2.Télébec stated that: (1) the public payphone service is not compensatory and will not be compensatory at the new proposed rate; and (2) a uniform rate applicable to all local payphone calls would stimulate calling card payment use.
