Public Notice CRTC 1999-68 |
The Commission has received the following applications: |
1. ACROSS CANADA |
Applications (199807012, 199807020) by 3216195 CANADA INC. to amend the licences for the national English-language digital Direct-to-Home (DTH) Pay-Per-View (PPV) and terrestrial PPV programming undertakings known as Sports/Specials Pay-Per-View (Sports Specials). |
Sports/Specials seeks authority to distribute, on both undertakings, programming produced by companies with an ownership position in the applicant during the broadcast years 1999 and 2000. Sports Specials states that such programming would comprise about 85% of the sports programming on its services. |
In the case of the DTH PPV service, the requested change would require deletion of the condition of licence which prohibits the distribution of such programming, and the addition of a new condition of licence to permit it. |
In the case of the terrestrial PPV undertaking, the change would require the addition of a condition of licence. |

2. ACROSS CANADA |
Application (199808284) by THE SPORTS NETWORK (TSN) to amend the licence for the national specialty television programming service. TSN seeks authority to operate a program repeat channel that would rebroadcast TSN programming on a separate channel. |
Initially, the proposed repeat channel would be distributed by Bell Satellite Services Inc. (BSSI). The repeat channel would not displace any existing programming undertaking distributed on BSSI's digital direct-to-home service. |
The criteria for program repeat channels are outlined in Public Notice CRTC 1993-74 issued following the Structural Public Hearing. In accordance with those criteria, the proposed repeat channel will distribute the programming aired on TSN within the previous seven days. Canadian content requirements and the general nature of the program format will be the same as for TSN. Control over the programming rests with the licensee. |
