Decision

Ottawa, 4 June 1999

Decision CRTC 99-124

The Partners of Prime TV

Across Canada - 199900824

Application processed by
Public Notice CRTC 1999-69
dated 21 April 1999

Licence amendments for Prime TV

1. The Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the national English-language specialty programming undertaking known as Prime TV.

2. The definition of broadcast day set out in Decision CRTC 96-604 is amended and will read as follows: "broadcast day" shall mean the period of 24 hours beginning at 08:00. This amendment will be in effect for the current broadcast year.

3. In addition, the following subsection is added to the condition of licence which sets limits on the amount of advertising that the licensee may broadcast:

4.(e) In addition to the twelve minutes of advertising material referred to in subsection (a), the licensee may broadcast partisan political advertising during an election period.

4. The Specialty Services Regulations 1990 do not specify limits on the advertising material that a specialty service may broadcast. Such limits are instead regulated by individual conditions of licence. The addition of the above-noted subsection will give the licensee the flexibility granted conventional television broadcasters through the amendments to the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987 (announced in Public Notice CRTC 1995-159).

This decision is to be appended to the licence. It is available in alternative format upon request, and may also be viewed at the following Internet site:
