New French-language specialty television services - Applications denied (see appended list)

7 December1998 Public Hearing in Montréal

Summary

The Commission denies the 13 applications for licences to operate new French-language specialty television services listed in the appendix to this decision. The Commission has examined the 17 applications considered at the public hearing in accordance with the licensing criteria set out in Public Notices CRTC 1997-33 and 1998-46, as well as in Notice of Public Hearing CRTC 1998-7-2. Four of these applications have been approved in Decisions CRTC 99-109 to 99-112 published today.

1. At the public hearing held on 7 December 1998 in Montreal, the Commission examined 17 applications for licences to operate French-language specialty television services. These applications were filed in response to the call issued by the Commission in Public Notice CRTC 1997-33.

2. As explained in greater detail in Public Notice CRTC 1999-89, which serves as a preamble to the approval decisions also published today, the Commission hereby denies the 13 applications listed in the appendix to this decision.

3. The Commission wishes to thank the many interveners who submitted their comments to the Commission for their participation during this public process.
