Canadian Television Policy Review - Call for Comments

  CRTC Information Placed on the Public File
  1. As it proposed to do in Public Notice CRTC 1998-44, the Commission has now placed on the public file of the proceeding that will be held to review its Canadian television policy, information with respect to the following:
  · ownership of licensed conventional, specialty and pay television undertakings as of 31 May 1997;
  · comparative information relating to revenues and viewership for conventional, specialty and pay television programming undertakings for the years 1993 to 1997, inclusive;
  · Fall 1991 and Fall 1996 BBM television viewing and scheduling data;
  · data derived from the program logs of conventional television stations for the broadcast year 1996/97;
  · information concerning independent productions that received Canadian program recognition for the years 1994 to 1997, inclusive; and,
  · information concerning the financial performance of, and programming expenses by, conventional, specialty and pay television undertakings, on an aggregate basis, for the years 1993 to 1997, inclusive.
  2. The Commission makes this information available to assist interested parties in formulating their submissions to the 23 September 1998 Public Hearing. The information is available for viewing during normal business hours at the Commission's offices listed below.
  3. The information is extracted largely from the Commission's databases and, where appropriate, confidential information is excluded. In some cases, Commission staff have prepared graphic displays of the information to make it more accessible by the general public. The Commission recommends that parties read with care the notes that have been provided with the information.
  4. The information is not exhaustive, nor does it relate to all of the issues that may be considered during the Television Policy Review.
  5. Should a party consider that there is a material omission or inaccuracy in this information, the Commission requests that this matter be brought to its attention during the written phase of the public hearing.
